Commenting on the UK Biobank Health Data breach, Paul Croall, CEO of Undisclosed DNA, a UK tech company that offers a privacy solution for DNA and medical data, said:
“It is deeply worrying but far from surprising that the medial information of more than half a million British people has leaked online in China.
“While this particular leak seems to be as a result of a legitimate download as opposed to a hostile hacking operation, it highlights the huge risk that our most sensitive personal medical and DNA data is at when stored in online databases like this.
“This is precisely the sort of instance for which Undisclosed DNA was created. Our unique, patented technology would mitigate the risks of a leak like this and ensure that all personal medical data of this kind was encrypted and secure.”
“We hope that this latest in a long line of medical data breaches serves as a wake-up call to the British Government to take urgent steps now to protect the medical data of British citizens and minimise the risks associated with this type of leak moving forwards.”
